Moving Your Files Between PC's. |
| |
|
Moving your digital files from one PC to another is relatively simple. |
You can move folders and files from one PC to another in a number of ways, the first and
easiest way is to copy your folders to a blank DVD/CD disc, to do this you will need to have a
couple of things to hand such as a DVD/CD burner installed on your PC, most modern PC's have these as
standard, a blank writable DVD/CD disc and DVD/CD authoring or burning software, then all you
need to do is put your blank disc, preferably a DVD as this has a larger capactiy than a CD, into your drive,
open the DVD/CD burning software navigate to the folder that you want to move, i.e, your documents folder, select
all the folder's within that folder that you want to move and then burn them to your blank disc using the afore
mentioned software, of course the contents of your folder may be too large to fit on to a DVD disc if this is
the case you can use several DVD disc's or make a back up using back up software.
Another way to move files is to transfer them to a portable USB flash drive or memory stick, to do this you will
need to obtain such a drive, and these are not all that expensive these days, insert the drive into a spare USB
port on your PC, open the desired folder that you wish to transfer and then using your mouse drag your desired
folders and files to the window of the memory stick, when you have finished you simply remove the stick and then
plug it in to your new PC and drag your items from the stick to the desired folder of the new PC.
A third way to move your folders is to copy them to an external hard drive, this works in much the same way a
memory stick although external hard drives have a much larger capacity so your able to store a large
amount of data and they need a seperate power supply to make them work, it is possible to make an
external hard disc drive from an an old internal drive and I will be covering this later on.
A more convienient method is to have all of your data backed and stored on line in a virtual hard
drive as all you have to do is connect your new PC to your account and download your data to your new PC,
I will be writing an article on this in much greater detail later on so please stay tuned in for regular
updates.
