How I Quit Smoking Part One |

Quit Smoking With Sheer Will Power |
In September 1997 I managed to kick the deadly smoking habit, one that I had had since I was about 14 years old and
to my surprise I found it quite easy as I had tried to give up on numerous occasions before and had failed, but
this time I was determined to do it and although I was going through a messy divorce and was under the doctor and
being treated for depression I managed to kick it, read on to find out how I became a non smoker and how you can
too.
I remember it being a Monday morning and the first day of the month and about a week before my Birthday and I had
yet again been up in the night and had chain smoked about 3 fags and I was thinking to myself this is no good I
really need to stop this, I was getting on for about fifty fags a day and at the time they were averaging about
three quid a packet, I seem to remember that I was buying Rothman Royals with 25 in a pack and smoking nearly two
packs in a twenty four hour period. Anyhow I looked in my pack and saw that I had three left and thought right this
is it, as a Birthday present to myself I am going to stop this deadly habit from today and with that I smoked one
fag then and another on my way to work and the last one when I got there and then threw my empty packet in the bin,
now I could not go out anywhere, although being a truck driver and new at my company, I had joined just two months
previously, I was given a job working in the warehouse and was glad as I was unable to visit the shops. I thought
to myself if I could go just two hours without one I could do another two hours and I did, so now it was dinner
time and I had lasted the morning without any fags, great I thought but I had to contend with the afternoon still
and also had other people around me that smoked, I did not let anyone know that I was trying to quit but I politely
refused any offers of a smoke that came my way. I thought part of being able to stop is being able to resist
offer's of fags and also I am going to be around smokers whatever I do, so I just needed to get used to it, and I
put myself first and got it in my mind that I was going to be a non smoker.
After lunch that day I was given the keys to a truck and sent out driving, I am unable to remember where but as I
worked for a newspaper haulage company I had no need to go to the news agents as I had a copy of today’s paper so
the temptation to buy any fags was reduced, anyways, I returned from my run and I was pleased now that I had gone
this far without any fags and I just had the evening to get through, I quickly refueled my truck and was debriefed
by Management and just got in the car and drove straight home without stopping, and I thought great since I had
gone from about 7am that day, and now it was around 7pm, without any of those cancer sticks I felt good, I was not
missing it at all and looking forward to my dinner. After dinner I bathed and went to bed early and slept well all
night.
The next morning I woke up to sound of the alarm and got up had a coffee as you do and went off to work and I was
thinking WOW as I now had been a whole twenty four hours as a none smoker, I thought to myself I have done one day
and now I can do it all again and this I did quite easily. Find out what happened on day two in part two of this
series.
